NH, DE, IA, MS and VT

What do these states have in common?  They have never elected a woman to the United States House of Representatives.  The grassroots in NH wants to change that this year, and we have the woman to do it - Carol Shea-Porter!
Carol is a progressive with a fiscally responsible platform.  She grew up in a military family and married into the service, raised two children who are now in high school and college, got an advanced degree in the social services field, and has spent the last couple of years dogging the footsteps of our current NH-01 Congressman, Jeb Bradley, around the state, attending town hall meeting after meeting, asking Jeb to stand up for the people of NH.  When he didn't stand up for us, she decided he needed to be replaced and she stepped forward to run for the seat.

She stepped forward, along with 4 men.  Peter Sullivan has since withdrawn , but will be on the ballot.  Gary Dodds had a strange auto accident but is still in the race.  Dave Jarvis is an unknown.  Carol's real competition is Jim Craig, minority leader of the NH House of Representatives, and the anointed candidate of the DCCC, who apparently is uncomfortable letting the Democrats of NH decide on their candidate for November's election in the primary.  The DCCC has sent a lot of money Jim's way.
But every activist I have met recently, and all the ones I know from 3 years of intense political activity in my area (I was a Deaniac), know Carol and want her to run against Bradley.  She is articulate, knows her material, is a great speaker, and is a warm and compassionate woman.  She wants the troops home, a moral budget, a chance for every child to get a great education, including college, a clean enviroment, and the opportunity for "the rest of us" to live our lives in some semblance of sanity, instead of in the fear and confusion that all of us feel as our country comes apart at the seams.  You can see and hear her, and read what she stands for, at her website .
Help us in NH to elect a woman to Congress!  You can donate to Carol's campaign on her website.  If you live in the 1st Congressional District in NH, join us in volunteering for her, we have a wonderful time and we are a great team!  I believe that this country will never heal until women are represented equally in Washington.

Found in Fosters Newspaper today, about Carol.

Congress needs to be balanced
To the editor:

Sometime in their schooling New Hampshire voters learned about the separation of powers among the three branches of government. Unfortunately, in New Hampshire, everyone operates under the monopoly of power by one political party. The mid-term elections are the chance for citizens to restore some balance to at least the Congress.

The good news is that there is an excellent choice: Carol Shea-Porter. It is not necessary to demonize Republicans to realize that many voters in New Hampshire are simply not represented by the current congressional delegation. Democrats and independents have the power to provide change by voting for Carol Shea-Porter in the Primary on Sept. 12.

Shea-Porter has tracked the performance of Jeb Bradley, a compliant Bush team member, for three years. She has challenged his votes on at least the following:

q The flawed Medicare prescription bill that prevents any negotiation on the price of drugs;

q Against expanding health care for reservists and National Guard who are inadequately covered;

q And against granting bonuses of $1,500 to those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Bradley voted with Tom DeLay 90 percent of the time, receiving $15,000 from Delay's PAC and similar amounts from other out-of-state drug, gas and oil interests.

New Hampshire voters in the First District have a chance to vote for a candidate who has studied the issues and knows she needs to be proactive on a variety of problems that impact all of us.

The illegal invasion of Iraq has dominated everything the government should address. Carol Shea-Porter has a sound plan for universal health care, improved education and fair taxation, just as a start.

Please, visit her website at www.carolforcongress.com for excellent discussions on issues we care about. Attend one of the events where Carol speaks because you can then see for yourself how sure-footed, knowledgeable and passionate she is.

We can help her correct the Bradley-Bush team decisions of the past six years.

Another post about Carol in the paper.

To the editor:

Carol Shea-Porter is running for Congress in our district, the First Congressional District of New Hampshire. We are most fortunate to have this truly remarkable woman running. She has my unqualified support.

Carol Shea-Porter is an impressive candidate -- articulate, bright, forthright, and honest. She cares deeply about her fellow Americans and is well qualified to represent us.

In the three years since I met her during the 2004 presidential primaries, she has committed herself to holding Rep. Jeb Bradley accountable for his record -- which she knows cold -- of voting to enact Bush's dangerous and destructive agenda. She can be trusted to speak out on our behalf and protect our best interests. She has the courage to take a clear stand on the many serious issues facing us today.

For details on her background and positions on the war in Iraq, privacy rights, health care, etc. please go to www.carolforcongress.com.

Carol Shea-Porter will bring a higher standard of leadership Congress. We urgently need leaders like Carol to help steer this nation back to a more moderate course. Please join me in supporting Carol Shea-Porter for Congress in the primary on Sept. 12.
